Welcome to CAAW

The Chinese American Association of Walnut (CAAW), founded in 1989, is a nonprofit organization providing community, educational, and cultural services and support to Chinese American residents in Walnut and neighboring communities. Our members include hundreds of Chinese American families and other ethnics groups who are interested in promoting cultural understanding of Chinese American. Membership with CAAW is open to all Walnut residents.

Special Announcement

Chinese American Association of Walnut (CAAW) is pleased to announce our 2017 scholarship program. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student with outstanding achievements in community services. To qualify, student must be a high school JUNIOR residing within the City of Walnut. Student must demonstrate and maintain a 3.0 or above GPA for the current school year. Qualified students of all gender and race are encouraged to apply.

Chinese American Association of Walnut (CAAW) is pleased to announce that our 2016 scholarship program winner is Michelle Su. Michelle is a graduate of Diamond Bar High School and will be going to the University of the Pacific for a 5 year accelerated pharmacy program. Congratulation, Michelle!

2016 Parent Child Relationship Seminar 親子講座



The Chinese American Association of Walnut will host a free Parent Child Relation Seminar on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Walnut Senior Center located at 21215 La Puente Rd, Walnut.


The speaker, Ms. Betty Chang is a certified teacher in the subject of parent child relationship and is a well known speaker and expert in this subject.


The seminar will be conducted in Mandarin Chinese. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

主講人鄭錦珠老師 (Ms. Betty Chang) 是持有加州成人教育教師執照的親子教育老師,她曾為亞太家庭服務中心親子教育講師。她生動活潑的教學方式,以及多年的教學經驗將會讓家長們穫益匪淺。

Walnut City Council Candidates Forum


The candidates forum hosted by UWT ( United Walnut Taxpayers) and CAAW ( Chinese American Association of Walnut) was a big success. Over 200 hundred Walnut residents came out to meet and ask questions of the six candidates. Everyone that attended came away with a better sense of what each candidate's stand for and their vision for the future of Walnut.

2015 CAAW Dinner Gala


2015 CAAW Sponsors


CAAW hosted our 2015 Dinner Gala on Saturday, August 29 at the Walnut Senior Center. Close to 200 guests show up and enjoyed a delicious buffet, joyful performances and dancing with family and friends. We also recognized our 2015 scholarship winner Rhea Lin at the dinner. More than 40 prizes were raffled off including the grand prize - a GoPro camera. Please click here for photos of the event.

On 6-27 from 2-5 pm, over 60 peoples attended a free seminar, co sponsor by CAAW and CASAH, on senior housing at the Walnut Senior Center. Many options and things to consider for seniors planning their housing arrangement were discussed. Everyone left with a lot of useful information to consider when they start planning for their own housing arrangement.

On 4-25-2015, CAAW hosted two seminars at the Walnut Senior Center. In the morning, Dr. Dennis Wong conducted a workshop on Advance Care Planning.


In the afternoon, Karen Ogawa, Director of Administrative Services for the city of Walnut, gave information on some very useful services that the city of Walnut provide and demonstrated several ways for residents to get information about the city.



2014 September 13 - Seminar on Remodeling Permit and Common Core Education
On Sept 13, 2014, CAAW hosted a seminar with two popular subjects, City Development Projects Remodeling Permit & Inspection and Understand Common Core Curriculum and How it affects you. The first seminar was attended by over 60 peoples. Three employees from the city of Walnut were on hand to explain and answer questions on the permit process. At the second seminar, Dr. An York and Barbara Falkner explained what the new Common Core Curriculum is and what it mean to parent with children in school. Both seminars were very well received and everyone attended came away with lots of useful information. See Photo here

2014 September 13 - 2014 Moon Festival
On Sept 13, 2014, in conjunction with Walnut Folk Dance group, CAAW hosted the 2014 Moon Festival party. It was a huge success with over 250 people attended. CAAW was honored at the event by State Senator Mr. Bob Huff. There were dance performances which was enjoy by all who attended. There were also plenty of food and everyone left the party feeling joyous and happy. See Photo here

2014 June 14 - CAAW Mammoth Lake trip
CAAW members took a 2 day trip to Mammoth Lake on the weekend of June 14, 2014. The trip include a tram ride to 11,000 ft top of Sierra Mountain, tour of Japanese Concentration Camp, trout fish farm, famous bakery store and a nice hot spring bath. Everyone really enjoy the trip and a chance to interact with other members. They are eagerly looking forward to the 2015 trip. See Photo here

2013 December 17 - Community outreach to Walnut Sheriff and Fire Stations
As part of a community outreach effort and to show our support for the Walnut sheriff deputies and fire fighters during the holiday season. CAAW directors bought and shared breakfast with deputies and staff at the Walnut Sheriff Station. CAAW directors also delivered gift basket to the two Walnut Fire Stations. Interaction with the deputies and fire fighters include tour of their facilities and discussions on how we can partner to make our community safer. All the directors came away with a deeper sense of appreciation for what all these brave men and women do to protect us. In turn, all the deputies and fire fighters were delighted to have received these show of appreciation from community group like CAAW. See Photo here

2013 October 12 - Walnut Family Festival
CAAW participated in the 2013 Walnut Family Festival by having a team of dancers and board members parading down La Puente Rd with other Walnut community groups. CAAW also sponsor a booth at Susanne park that feature calligraphy and tea demonstration.

2013 September 22 - Moon Festival
Over 200 Walnut residents and friends enjoyed a night of music and songs under the full moon as they attended the Moon Festival hosted by CAAW at Susanne Park. Free moon cakes were handed out and everyone has a blast celebrating the 2013 Moon Festival.

2013 August 17 - Health and Finance Seminar
CAAW hosted a Health and Finance Seminar at the Walnut Senior Center on 8-17-2013. Health professionals were there to discuss the impact of Obamacare and various health topics. Financial professionals were also on hand to discuss planning for retirement and other investment strategies. All attendees enjoyed free delicious foods and went away with lots of useful information.

2013 June 15 - One day trip to Temecula Valley
CAAW members families and friends spend a fun filled day touring the Temecula Valley area. The tour included visit to a lavender farm, wine tasting at a couple of wineries and picking strawberries at a strawberry farm. Everybody came back with loads of souvenirs and fun and are looking forward to the next trip.

2013 March 2 - Annual Lunar New Year Dinner
CAAW hosted our annual Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, March 2 at the Walnut Senior Center. Over 200 guests show up and enjoyed a delicious buffet, joyful performances and karaoke with family and friends. More than 60 prizes were raffled off including the grand prize - iPad Mini. 2012 November - Walnut for Sandy, A Fundraising Drive for Sandy Relief
On November 17 & 18, CAAW in cooperation with American Red Cross, Tzu Chi Foundation, Gospel Life Community, and Walnut student volunteers setup booths at various Walnut shopping centers to raise funds for families impacted by Hurricane Sandy. See Photo here

2012 October - Walnut Family Festival
On October 13, CAAW members, families, and friends showcased traditional Chinese cultural costumes parading down La Puente Avenue during Walnut Family Festival. Joined by renowned calligraphy masters, CAAW information booth attracted hundreds of visitors lining up to receive impromptu calligraphy writing and painting from the masters. See Photo here

2012 September 22 – College Application & Essay Workshop
Over 150 high school students and supportive parents attended seminar topics on college application process, crafting an application essay, and interview preparation. Our application reviewers assisted over 40 students with their application essays.

2012 July 29 – Health Seminar
Over 100 residents attended the health seminar learning about healthcare plans and upcoming changes and tips on managing their health and extending life longevity.

2012 June 24 –Ventura One Day Tour
CAAW members, families, and friends enjoyed a leisure day meeting new friends, strolling through the beautiful Descanso Gardens, feasting lobster lunch at Oxnard, touring scenic Ventura Harbor on a boat ride, and shopping brand names at Camarillo Outlet to end an eventful day.

2012 February 11 – Chinese New Year Dinner
Walnut families and friends kicked off another prosperous year with festive song and dance and raffled prizes at our annual Chinese New Year dinner.
